What Actually Happens During Our Prep Process (And Why It Matters)

Prep work isn't glamorous but it’s the foundation of every professional paint job we do. At JG Painting, we never cut corners when it comes to preparing your home for painting, because we know: flawless paint starts before the brush touches the wall.

Here’s what our prep process includes (and why it matters):

1. Detailed Surface Inspection

We start by walking through the job site, inspecting walls, ceilings, trim, or exterior siding for damage, cracks, or stains. Identifying these early helps us plan ahead and give you the best finish.

2. Repairs and Patching

Small holes, nail pops, peeling areas all get patched and sanded smooth. We use top-quality fillers to make sure everything is level and sealed before priming.

3. Cleaning the Surface

Dust, grease, and debris can prevent paint from bonding properly. Whether it's a mild cleaning solution indoors or power washing your exterior, we make sure surfaces are paint-ready.

4. Protecting Your Home

We carefully cover furniture, floors, windows, and hardware. On exteriors, we protect landscaping, fixtures, and windows to avoid overspray or drips.

5. Priming the Right Way

We apply primer where needed especially on new drywall, patched areas, or surfaces where adhesion is a concern. This step ensures your color stays even and durable.

Good prep is invisible but it’s the difference between a job that looks okay for a year… and one that still looks fresh five years later.
